LUCKY TERENCE!

I am very lucky
One of the luckiest person I know
Got my first job in Sunway Medical Centre Velocity in 2 weeks after my final exams in AIMST after spending 6 years in Kedah

Went to Europe trip with my mum for 21 days within the first month working in SMCV. (My boss actually approved my leaves! One of the BEST Boss ever)

Had a lot of fun and crazy moment in Europe, walking to the middle of the lake (Frozen lake) on my own at 12am, definitely one in a life time experience

After coming back from Europe trip, continued with my job in SMCV
Met tonnes of wonderful people.

Thank you to all you angels for taking good care of me when I was there.
Cool doctors, superstar doctors, inspiring doctors, down to earth pharmacists, very good seniors, and of course some really cool and cute colleagues.

Enjoyed every single badminton sessions with them. My first time playing badminton in my life, even bought myself a badminton racquet for the game.

Prepared for MRCS for the first 4 months of my work. Got really tensed, waking up at ungodly hours 4am just to study before my work starts in SMCV. Grabbed every single opportunity to study in SMCV, be it skipping lunch, or rushing back to office straight after lunch or after every single task just to cramp that extra bit of information from books.

Got in touched with one of the most severe pandemic infection (COVID-19) in my 5th month in SMCV. MRCS exam got cancelled. Felt relieved at first, however boredom got me after that first week and I decided to start reading textbooks again.

Volunteer-ED to be a checker/ screener for COVID-19 in SMC. Learnt tons of stuffs from my nursing colleagues. Got to know a lot of cool people too that we don't really have opportunity to talk to during normal office hour.
From the CEO all the way down to the security guards, talked about girls, girlfriends, all the way to money, dreams, most ''masyuk'' field in medical profession.

Enjoyed every single day, one of the best time of my life.
I wish you all well. All the best in your career! And I shall see you guys at the TOP!

As I am typing this, I have exactly 28 days to go before my last day. Thank YOU!

Finishing med school

I am about to finish med school in another 2 weeks time
I am taking this time to write something that is right inside my mind right now
I just looked upon on viweb.net
Many historical events and beautifully written paragraphs by our seniors from Vi, the old boys
They are so successful, I wish I can be as good as them, as our school song says, may the new Victorians, match with old Victorians

Let us lastly pledge ourselves
Ever to uphold our school
In our work and in our leisures,
with such zeal and in such measure
That the new Victorians
Match with old VICTORIANS.

给三年后的自己

昨晚看了朋友的三年后的自己
决定要写一封信给三年后的自己

3 years later.. I think you will be a surgery MO? or working in Australia?
Have you completed your MRCS part A and B?
Or have you changed direction and venture into Aesthetic business?

Anyway.. Remember to work hard!
Have you got married with the love of your life? Or are you still single?
Have you got children already at 27 years old? Or you are still staying alone somewhere in Sabah/Sarawak earning that extra rm1k per month?

Are you happy?
No matter what you are doing. I hope you are happy.
You are a highly motivated person. 捱过了就是你的. Keep grinding! Never give up.

Are you still going to the gym consistently? Or have you gave up your gym life and decided to jump on the bandwagon of having a dadbod?

Have you gotten a house in Malaysia? Or are you currently applying to work in UK/US to get a master training program there?

No matter what you are doing. I am proud of you and I want you to keep going no matter how tough it seems.

It is never easy in life. Never choose the easy way out. Choose the route that brings most pain and believe me the reward is going to be worth it! No pain no gain!

Remember how you are eating only chicken breast and broccoli/ carrot everyday as dinner for the past 3 weeks in year 5 to get 6 packs abs! It is not easy! but it is doable! I hope you are still maintaining your 6 packs abs right now hahaha

I hope you will be having a wonderful career right now. Happily grinding like you always do right now!

Super looking forward to Terence Chin in 2022!
JIAYOU!

To be a surgeon

Hello all!
Just had a wonderful buffet at Tao with kahkei's family. SO full right now and I cant sleep when im too full.. I have had GERD since year one from doing intermittent fasting with coffee. (Stupid idea)

So after setting my target since last post... I have worked harder in my studies.
However, the more I know, the more I know I don't know.

It is not easy..
But, I learnt something today. It is from some india website. In getting MRCS and MS in surgery.

Basically I have to set a goal right now. My goal is to be a surgeon.
So after setting my goal, everything is easier.
Everything I do right now is either bringing me nearer to my goal or pulling me away from my goal.
In order to get to my goal as soon as possible, I need to have laser focus.

Thats my main goal in my medical life (To be a surgeon)

Lost my account

The reason i stopped blogging for the past 2 years is I lost my blogspot account!
Not exactly lost. It is more like forgetting the existence of my old email. The problem with having too many email account!

Just got back from hospital night rounds. This is my first night oncall in HSB. Im now a year 5 medical student, in my second posting of my final year right now (Surgery)

The past few days I've been googling alot on "How to become surgeon" in Malaysia.
It is tough. Getting a MRCS does not mean you are a surgeon in Malaysia. There is no clinical training in MRCS. Only theory and OSCE therefore its not recognised as a qualification to operate on patient.

In Malaysia, the only way to operate legally is via getting a Master in Surgery in government university. It is tough. The competition is tough. But nothing is impossible as the word says I M Possible.

Gotta pray my best and do my best is order to secure a seat for master in surgery in 3 years time!

Things to do to get accepted into Master in surgery

1. MRCS (Ireland)
2. Masters in Surgical Sciences (MSc)
3. Masters in Surgical Anatomy (MSc Surg. Anatomy)
5. Basic Surgical Sciences
6. Attending as many Surgical Related Workshops as possible
4. ATLS/MTLS/ACLS/PALS

4 hours in the ward

Believe it or not today marks one of the longest hours I've spent in the ortho ward. So yeah today I decided to go into the hospital a little bit earlier due to unforeseen changes. (I planned to exchange the new ATM card in cimb but got told there's no new card left when I reach the bank.)

So I reach hospital around 12pm. And I just wander around the ward hoping to get some case. I have bed side exam with Dr. Sara on Friday so yeah I want to get some cases and be familiar with them before Friday.

Around 1-2 hours later, a Malay lady presented together with her husband in wheelchair. We (ZH and I) got told by the HO( Dr Low) to clerk the patient and present the case to him.

So we just started clerking and yeah I even did the first step wrongly by not asking what is his name!!!

So and so we did some simple examination (pulse from dorsalis pedis and posterior tibial, pitting eedema).. And present the case to the HO. And the HO just type the case into the computer without clerking the patient again. SO.... This is our first job huh? As in first clerking that got used by the hospital.

And after clerking the patient, the PakCik was so thankful and he initiated to shake my hand and you know kiss his own hand after shaking (some Malay practise) and I could feel that our presence warm his heart. By just simply asking questions and doing some really basic general examination mean so much to them. This is the thing that motivates me even more to be a good doctor. I really like this job. So THANKFUL to my parents also, GOD, for putting me into a med school. I am getting clearer about my future now. Atleast I know I will be happy at work next time.

Pick a job you like and you would not feel like working from 8am to 8pm everyday. Pick a person you love and you will be happy from 8pm to 8am Hahaha LOVE YA GUYS LOVE LIFE!

Good and bad

YO. Its been a week since I last blogged. And just deleted another blog seconds ago. Weird feeling flowing all over but it's okay.
Okay so what is good and what is bad?
For the good parts :
I have gotten a chance to cut off slough from a real patient. An 68? yo aunty from ward 6 hsah. It was astonishing. An amazing experience. It spikes up my interest in medicine even more. Like I finally able to conduct a "mini" surgery? (Does that even count as one?) HAHAHA

Bad: I accidentally cut off one of her spinal arteries. It was crazy. Luckily Dr Low, an HO, was steady enough to suture it off and yeah it stopped the bleeding. I got told by the doctor that if the bleeding does not stop in 10mins that patient could easily go into shock.
